'Puro', pure and personal flamenco exclusive to the Lucent Danstheater! The young dancer Farruquito from Seville is idolised in Spain. Now, for once, we have someone who is not turning flamenco into something new with tremendous spectacle but a dancer in the old tradition of his parents and grandfather, the legendary dancer El Farruco. Traditional flamenco with the boundless energy of a young blood and the deeply distilled, emotional eloquence of an elderly man. Calling a performance 'puro' in the flamenco world is a daring enterprise. But Farruquito abundantly justifies the epithet. Not only is his performance pure in the sense of traditional or ‘flamenco puro’, is it also quintessentially personal. All the texts and part of the music are written and composed by the dancer himself. Farruquito wants to share with us his own world of experience and in doing so he bares his soul to the audience. Stunning footwork, impressive silences and simple elegance are the ingredients. Although he rehearses intensively for months Farruquito pushes himself and his musicians to the limit by ultimately improvising extensive sections of his performance. For that, too, is 'puro' Farruquito.
