The young Croatian cellist Zita Varga is praised for her expressive playing. Performing in a varied programme and accompanied by the pianist Jelger Blanken, she will be playing Richard Strauss’ only cello sonata flanked by variations of Beethoven and Martinu. The Latvian pianist Arturs Cingujevs, whose piano playing is known for its substance and depth, will also be playing Beethoven and will close with Prokofiev’s Fifth Sonata.
 
This concert is part of the series: New Masters on Tour. The International Holland Music Sessions is one of the most important festivals in the world for supporting exceptional international talent in classical music. For a number of weeks in the summer soloists from more than 25 countries give daily concerts with the piano, violin and cello in the limelight. In the course of the year concerts are being organised throughout the whole country under the title New Masters on Tour. Five of these concerts in an intimate setting will be playing in The Hague classics series: Haagse Klassieken, in their own series.
