Bach Magnificat in D BWV 243
Christmas and Bach is a golden combination, and not just because of his Christmas oratorio. The great master wrote a great deal more music for Christmas and the Nederlandse Bachvereniging in this concert has complied a festive mix. Bach’s Magnificat, a real Christmas hymn, is famous. But the cantata in this concert is full of heavenly sounds. The concert begins with two of Bach’s precursors Schein and Hammerschmidt. Two marvellous motets after one of the most familiar German sacred lieder. This concert is part of the Muziek Authentiek series. For those who enjoy listening to early music played on authentic instruments the Haagse Klassieken series has been a real joy. Season after season ensembles with a genuine love of early music have played scores as they probably sounded in the past. Familiar names like the Nederlandse Bachvereniging and Combattimento Consort are among them. Plenty of scope too is given to a real Hague ensemble, the New Dutch Academy specialising in 18th century music and performing in three concerts of music by Bach, Mozart and Haydn. We have put together two attractive series for you, three concerts in each, which also combine well to create a complete season of authentic music: Muziek Authentiek
