Wie veertig jaar wordt, heeft wat te vieren en blikt terug op zijn leven. Dat geldt ook voor Introdans, dat ter gelegenheid van zijn verjaardag een poëtisch retrospectief samenstelde met enkele parels uit het rijke repertoire van de groep. Messiah werd in 1988 gemaakt door Ed Wubbe en behoort tot de klassiekers van het Nederlands balletrepertoire. Het stuk is een lofzang op Händels gelijknamige oratorium en net als de muziek zit de choreografie vol contrasten.

Nils Christes Fünf Gedichte is een verstilde ode aan de overgang van leven naar dood. Op de romantische 'Wesendonk Lieder' van Wagner creëerde de dansmaker tegen de achtergrond van een wolkenhemel een fijnzinnig en krachtig werk.

Het slotakkoord komt van Gisela Rocha. De Braziliaanse maakte in 2006 een verrassend debuut bij Introdans met Paradise?, een fragmentarische en zinderende wereld waarin de dansers onder meer zingen en tapdansen. Zelfs de lampen dansen mee!

When you celebrate your fortieth birthday, you look back on your life. This goes for Introdans, too, which is marking its anniversary with a poetical retrospective that features several jewels from the Introdans repertoire. We look back in time with the retrospective HEMELS, showcasing impressive works as Fünf Gedichte by Nils Christe, Messiah by Ed Wubbe and Paradise? by Gisela Rocha.

Messiah, created by Ed Wubbe in 1988, is one of the classics of the Dutch ballet repertoire. The piece is a paean to the oratorio of the same name by Händel and, just like the music, the choreography is full of contrasts too: the arias accompany the sensitive, personal sections, while the dancers flow and whirl across the stage in a dynamic mass during the choral sections.



Nils Christe’s Fünf Gedichte is a calm ode to the transition from life to death. Using the music of Wagner’s romantic Wesendonk Lieder and set against a stage design of a sky with clouds (designed by Keso Dekker), Christe created a sensitive but also powerful work that features a tender lyricism, especially in the duets.

Paradise?, the third work in this programme, was choreographer Gisela Rocha’s startling debut at Introdans in 2006. The Brazilian shows a fragmentary but compelling world in which dancers also sing and tap-dance. Even the lamps join in the dance! NRC Handelsblad wrote ‘Paradise lets Introdans sparkle’.
